The Free State Innovations team collaborated with the Morrison Cup Solution team to explore viable, cost-effective solutions. Since the color head modules are removable, Free State Innovations’ engineering team proposed a stand-alone print head cleaning stand. The design for the stand includes a motor-controlled gear box where paint heads can be attached and rotated while being lightly sprayed with a cleaning agent. The motor has two modes for operation: a “jog” mode allows an operator to depress a button which slowly rotates the rollers, and a run mode with a timer which automatically rotates and cleans for predetermined durations. This solution is much faster than the current manual process and is far less messy.
